Spectacular Spinners

There are so many great cards out there featuring a spinning element, primarily using the new Gears & Textures bundle from Stampin' Up! In an effort to organize my craft studio, I've been trying to use products that have accumulated. There are a lot of retired items that I need to use, so I'm trying to show projects to inspire you to see how you can use what you have, or get new products to make these cards.

This idea was inspired by a card from Cindy Brumbaugh. I turned mine into a gift card holder. This card is made with the retired Geared Up Garage stamps and dies, Classic Garage Designer Series Paper (DSP), Stitched Shapes and Layering Ovals dies, a generic gears embossing folder, and some miniature rotating bearings that I purchased through Amazon (see affiliate links below).

Black cardstock:
5 1/2" X 8 1/2", score in landscape at 4 1/4"
Scraps to die cut gears

White cardstock:
4" X 5 1/4"
Scrap to stamp image and sentiment, die cut 3rd from largest stitched oval for sentiment  die cut/fussy cut images

Real Red cardstock:
Scraps to die cut largest and 2nd from largest stitched ovals

Tranquil Tide cardstock:
Scraps to die cut layering ovals dies (# X # & # X #)

Classic Garage DSP:
1" X 4" (X 2)

Crushed Curry cardstock:
3" X 9", score in landscape at 4" & 8"

Check out the video for instructions and tips.

Here are the versions of this card from the video.

A few other ideas using the spinners are below:
Graduation floating front card using the Online Exclusive Cap & Gown stamp set. I stamped the hands so they appear to be tossing the mortarboard cap into the air.
You start with a standard portrait base card (4 1/4 X 11") and score in landscape at 5 1/2". Then cut at 1" and 3". Take the 4 1/4" X 2" piece and turn it in portrait to create the floating front. Layers on the front: 4" X 2 1/4" (top section--embossed), 4" X 3/4" (bottom section--embossed), 4" X 1 3/4" (floating front section--punch both pieces with a tag topper punch). Layers inside: 5 1/4" X 4"; and 4" X 1"& 4" X 3/4" strips. To assemble front, lay the bottom section so that it lines up with the bottom of the back part of the card, add glue to the top and bottom only of the tag section and adhere centered vertically over the top and bottom sections on the card front. I punched a circle to go behind the mortarboard cap that I stamped and cut out. The rotating bearing is behind the circle to allow that part to spin.

This is a modified gate fold type card using some golf themed DSP. I created the golf ball from a circle punched from white cardstock and embossed with dots. The grass is a die cut using the retired Best Catch bundle. Theink tee was created from cutting extra limbs off of the tree from the retired tree builder punch.

The base is 5 1/2" X 6 1/2", score in landscape at 4 1/4"; and 4 1/4" X 3 3/8", score in portrait at 2 7/8". The small section on the larger piece folds in from the right side. Adhere the 1/2" section of the smaller piece to the left side of the larger piece (toward the inside) centered vertically. Add layers to these pieces:
Inside: large section--5 1/4" X 4" white with 5 1/4" X 2" DSP on the left side, small section--5 1/4" X 2" DSP
Front: left section--4" X 2 5/8" DSP, right section--5 1/4" X 2" DSP
"Catch" punch/die cut labels added with dimensionals
The tee and grass go on the right side with the rotating bearing behind the golf ball.

Spring Spectacular Fun Folds

In an effort to organize my craft studio, I'm finding that there's a lot of Designer Series Paper (DSP) that I've gathered since joining Stampin' Up! in 2012. I'm planning to focus on using this "stash" and also using some of my old stamp sets, dies, and bundles in designing projects while converting the packaging to the sleeves.

There are so many creative ideas for making cards from many sources, and this month I'm sharing three fun fold techniques I liked and also bringing in a few coloring ideas.

This first card technique idea came from Cheryl Dorsey as a unique way to show off Designer Series Paper. This is the Perennial Lavender paper,  the Lots of Lavender retired stamp set, the stamps from the retired Lots of Happy card kit, and Nested Essentials dies.
4 1/4" X 11" color cardstock (Shaded Spruce); cut in landscape at 8"; score the 4 1/4" X 8" piece in landscape at 5 1/2"

White cardstock:
2 7/8" X 4 1/4" (for inside)
Scraps for stamping, embossing, punching, and die cutting

Designer Series Paper (the pattern direction should be up and down when in the position indicated):
4" X 5 1/4" (portrait direction)
2 3/4" X 4" (portrait direction)
2 1/4" X 4" (landscape direction)

Vellum cardstock to die cut for additional tag layer.

You can view the video for instructions and helpful tips.

This is a book bind explosion fun fold shared by Connie Stewart. Using the Perennial Lavender DSP again, but with different retired stamp sets (Beautifully Happy, Color and Contour,  and A Touch of Ink), this card is fun to open and decorate. You could use any DSP and stamps, dies, etc. to create a Wow! card (as Connie calls them) for any occasion.
I used:
Crumb Cake cardstock:
4 1/4" X 11"; score in landscape at 4 1/4" and 5 1/2"

Lost Lagoon cardstock:
1 1/8" X 4 1/8 (front binding edge)
3 3/4" X 3 3/4" (explosion layer)
2 3/4" X 2 3/4" ( X 2) (inside explosion layer)

Gorgeous Grape cardstock:
3 1/4" X 3 1/4"  (front layer)

DSP (Perennial Lavender):
4" X 4" (front layer)
1" X 4" (front binding edge)
6" X 6" (explosion layer)

White cardstock:
2 1/2" X 2 1/2" ( X 2) (explosion layers)
3" X 3" (front)

This fun fold idea came from Dawn Griffith, and she called it a Triple Pop Up Fun Fold. There's a mechanism built in that lifts the panels to pop up when it is opened. I used the Hydrangea Hill retired DSP, Hydrangea Haven bundle, and Stitched so Sweetly dies.
Color cardstock #1 (Mossy Meadow):
5 1/2" X 8 1/2"; score in landscape at 4 1/4"
1" X 4 1/4"; score in landscape at 1" and 2"
1 1/4" X 8 1/2"; score in landscape at 1", 3 3/4", 4 3/4" and 7 1/2"

Color cardstock #2:
4" X 5 1/4" (or DSP like my example)
2 3/4" X 2 3/4" (X 3)- I changed this to Rococco Rose for class kits)

DSP (Hydrangea Hill-rerired):
5 1/4" X 4" (if directional, cut in portrait)--if using a cardstock mat, cut this at 5" X 3 3/4"
1" X 5 3/8" (X 2) (if directional, cut in portrait)
2 1/2" X 2 1/2" (X 3)
1 3/8" X 1 3/8" ( or could use color cardstock #2--cut diagonally)

Watercolor paper 5 1/2" X 5 1/2"
Vellum Cardstock for die cutting detailed Hydrangea head
Scrap white cardstock for tag and label
Scrap Old Olive cardstock to die cut detailed stem
