Peaceful Preparations for Christmas

The craziness over the last couple of years has got me thinking hard about the materialism that people usually associate with the holidays. I want to encourage more coming together and sharing warm and uplifting thoughts and messages this year. I plan to send and give out cards for Christmas this year instead of focusing on gift giving. Most of us have enough material things and would just like to hear from family and friends with whom we've lost contact. My November class will share a couple of cute cards that will enable us to get started on these greetings.

Peaceful Deer Snowflake

The first card is using the Peaceful Deer bundle, the Peaceful Prints designer series paper (Sale-a-bration item that just ended September 2021), Wonderful Snowflakes, Matte black dots, Snowflakes embossing folder, and Countours dies. This was CASED from Kurstan Del Rosario, who was very visionary in putting this together.
  • 4 1/4" X 11" Basic White thick cardstock; score in landscape at 5 1/2"
  • 4 1/8" X 5 3/8" Basic Black cardstock
  • 4" X 5 1/4" designer series paper (I used Peaceful Prints from Sale-a-bration that ended September 2021)

  • 4" X 1 1/2" Shimmery White cardstock; embossed with Snowflakes embossing folder

Origami Christmas Tree
The next card shares an old origami technique that creates a tree on the front of the card. I saw this idea from several fellow Independent Demonstrators including Kristina Rees and Tina Zinck. I used the Contours dies and Tidings of Christmas designer series paper (my example shows different designs, but you could use the same design for a different look). The sentiment came from the For Unto Us stamp set.
  • 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" coordinating color cardstock (example: Misty Moonlight); score in landscape at 4 1/4"
  • Largest scalloped rectangle (Contours) die cut from Basic White cardstock
  • 4" X 5 1/4" Basic White cardstock (for the inside)
  • Squares from Tidings of Christmas designer series paper cut at 1 1/2", 2", 2 1/2" and 3"
  • Scrap of Early Espresso cardstock for trunk of tree
  • Embellishment for tree top--ribbon bow or star
My YouTube video will demonstrate how to make this origami fun fold, and below are the template showing folds for the squares is below. Fold each square in half side to side and again diagonally from opposite corners.

You will fold so that the four diagonal folds are mountains and the two sides fold in to form twin triangles like below (there will be a triangle on the front and back).

Thank you for visiting my blog, and I hope that you have fun making these cards.
