Patriotic Retired Replay

The Host for my July in-person workshop wanted to make some cards with a patriotic theme. There's no reason our gratitude for the independence declared for our country can't be recognized for the whole month instead of just one day.

In looking for stamps that I have in my stash to use for these cards, I recognized that there haven't really been any sets in the last few years specifically designed for this theme like there were in the past. There also isn't any designer series paper (DSP) specifically for this. There are some that could be used as backgrounds. I had to look outside Stampin' Up! for patriotic paper. This made me so grateful for SU! and their color coordination between products becauseit was difficult to match cardstock to the papers. You could take stamps and create paper to use, use paper from the color family collections, and look through DSP for a way to use designs for other themes than just with the suite it was shown.

Using a timeless technique called pinwheel and a fun fold, I put together a card using the current Stripes 3D embossing folder and the retired Amazing You stamp set.
5 1/2" X 4 1/4" Real Red cardstock
10 1/2" X 4" Basic White cardstock; score in landscape at 5 1/4"
2 3/4" square Night of Navy cardstock (X 2)
1 1/4" square DSP (X 4 each of 2 designs=8 pieces)
Star punched from Real Red
14"-16" each blue and red 1/8" ribbon
Sequins

Another technique called explosion creates a pop out card when opened. Using the retired Silhouette Scenes and Something to Say stamp sets, current Watercolor Shapes stamp set, and a past Paper Pumpkin stamp set this card gives a pow to the holiday.
5 1/2" X 8 1/2" Night of Navy cardstock; score in landscape at 4 1/4"
5 1/4" X 4 1/8" Real Red cardstock
5" X 4" Basic White
8" square DSP
2 Label Me Lovely punched from Basic White cardstock
Iridecent Rhinestones
This video demonstrates how to put this together and fold the explosion piece.

There were some other ideas that I came up with related to this theme.
This is a card in a box using the Birthday Blast retired stamp set and Star Blast retired dies.

This is a faux shaker card using Sprinkled Expressions retired stamp set, colored beads, and the current Stitched Stars dies along with a clear envelope.

This is the Star Gift Bag from the July-December Mini catalog colored with blending brushes. I also used a very old Stampin' Up! God Bless America stamp to create a shrink plastic key chain. Video on the charm is available.
