For the Men in Our Lives

Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out what cards to make for men. I've learned that men don't really care too much for flowers or a lot of bling. That doesn't mean shiny things. They love metallic looks, outdoors, and cars.

For one of this month's manly cards I'm using images of the outdoors along with wood and a plaster type background. I got the design from Tami Hewlett. I'd been wanting to make something with the Mountain Air stamps and Majestic Mountain dies.

  • 5 1/2" X 8 1/2" Thick Basic White cardstock,  score in landscape at 4 1/4"
  • 5 1/4" X 4" plaster type background from In Good Taste Designer Series Paper (DSP)
  • Largest layering oval die (retired) cut from wood planks background from In Good Taste DSP
  • Detailed tall evergreen in Majestic Mountain dies cut from Basic White cardstock
  • Branch in Forever Flourishing dies cut from Basic White cardstock
  • "Happy" in Word Wishes dies cut from Basic White cardstock (mine came from the Merry Christmas dies--retired)

The video will show how everything comes together.

Another thing that men tend to like is cards with moving parts or that do something. They really like things that sort of entertain, so when I saw the card that Dawn Griffith made, I thought this is a great one for a guy. This one uses the Way to Goat stamp set.

Smoky Slate:
  • 5 1/2" X 8 1/2"; score in landscape at 2 1/8" from each end
Basic White:
  • 5 1/4" X 4"
  • 5 1/4" X 1" (X 2); score in landscape at 1", 2" & 4 1/4"
  • 2 1/4" squares (X 2)
  • Strip for sentiment on the front of the card
  • Fat "ovalish" label from Tasteful Labels dies (could use graduated ornate oval from Hippo & Friends dies)
Basic Gray:
  • 5 3/8" X 2" (X 2)
  • 2 1/2" scallop squares (X 2) (I used retired layering squares)
  • Strip for behind the sentiment on the front of the card
  • Scallop Rectangle from Stitched So Sweetly dies to fit behind the large Tasteful Labels white label (could use graduated ornate oval from Hippo & Friends dies)
Designer Series Paper (DSP):
  • 5 1/4" X 1 7/8" In Good Taste gray "concrete" background or a design from Neutrals stack of the gray or slate

Check out the video to see how to put this together.

That you for visiting my blog and sharing my love of paper crafting. I would love to have you shop with me if you like the products you see. Please note that some things say "retired", and you would have to look for those things online from people who sell the items that are no longer sold by Stampin' Up! or you could substitute another stamp set, die, punch, etc. that is in the current catalog.
