Beautiful Butterflies

As you may be able to tell from my website I love butterflies, so when the host requested that we make butterfly cards for the September class I had no problem with that. After searching for something fun and different on Pinterest, YouTube and the internet I found a couple of techniques that were a little more than the basic and wanted to share them. Thanks to all of the creative people out there that inspire me and give me ideas--this time, Dawn Griffith and Claire Daly.
Another inspiration came from the Flowers for Every Season designer series paper (DSP) from Stampin' Up! Below are the dimensions for each project. Click on the links for video tutorials of each card.

Dawn Griffith shared how to make a Floating Butterfly Bridge Card. This is my version.
  • 4 1/4" x 8" color cardstock; score in landscape at 1 1/4" & 2 1/2" from each end
  • 4" x 2 3/4" Whisper White cardstock (for the back)
  • 4" x 2 3/4" Glimmer paper
  • 4 1/8" x 1 1/8" designer series paper
  • 1" x 5 1/2" color cardstock
  • 3/4" x 5 1/2" color cardstock
  • 7/8" x 5 3/8" Whisper White cardstock; stamp sentiment
  • 1/2" x 3" Whisper White cardstock; stamp sentiment
  • 1/4" X 6" (x2) Window Sheet
  • Scrap of Whisper White cardstock; stamp 3 sets of butterflies, color with Stampin' Blends markers, cover with Versa Mark ink, sprinkle clear embossing powder, heat set, & punch out with the Butterfly Duet punch; adhere some of these to the window sheet strips to hang from behind the top bridge and some to the front and back of the card.
  • Check out the assembly on my video.
Claire Daly (AU demonstrator) showed this card made with Butterfly wishes, a "distinktive" stamp set by Stampin' Up!
  • 4 1/4" x 11" Crumb Cake cardstock; score in landscape at 5 1/2"; stamp the branch in Crumb Cake ink on the card front
  • 4" x 5 1/4" Whisper White cardstock (inside); stamp the flower in blackberry bliss ink and leaves in garden green ink along the left side (in landscape)
  • 3rd largest Stitched Nested Label die cut from Whisper White cardstock; color the branch with blackberry bliss, garden green, and crumb cake Stampin' Write markers; remoisten ("huff") the ink on the stamp and stamp on the label; stamp sentiment
  • 4th largest Stitched Nested Label die cut from Blackberry Bliss cardstock--extended to about 4 3/4"
  • Scrap Whisper White cardstock; stamp 3 butterflies in blackberry bliss ink and cut out
  • How to's, tips, and instructions on the video.
This last card was inspired by Dawn Griffith's Pull Tab Flap Card where I used butterflies from the Butterfly Beauty dies.
  • 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" color cardstock; score in landscape at 4 1/4"
  • 5 1/4" x 4" Whisper White cardstock (for inside)
  • 5" x 3 3/4" Whisper White cardstock
  • 4 3/4" x 3 1/2" designer series paper (DSP)
  • 2" x 6" color cardstock; score in landscape at 2" & 2 1/2"; punch the end furthest from the score lines with the Scallop Tag Topper punch
  • Largest stitched square (Stitched Shapes) die cut from color cardstock
  • 2nd largest stitched square die cut from Whisper White and color cardstocks; stamp image/sentiment for the front flap on the white square
  • 3rd largest stitched square die cut from Whisper White cardstock; stamp image/sentiment for the inside flap
  • Detailed outline butterflies group die cut from white or other color cardstock--add double sided adhesive sheet to the back of the cardstock before cutting this out for ease in adhering this to the inset butterflies group
  • Inset butterflies group die cut from color cardstock
  • 5" coordinating ribbon
  • The directions for putting this together and creating the pull tab mechanism is shown in the video.
